Job Description:

The role will be based in Boksburg and report to the Production Shift Manager. The Basic Operator will safely operate, set up, and maintain allocated equipment in the packing hall to ensure efficiently packed finished products, according to production requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Process / Operation

• • Start-Up / Shutdown Procedure: Performs the pre-start inspection, start-up, and shutdown on all related machinery as per Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

Material Availability

• • Obtains materials from storage areas as soon as pre-determined low levels are reached and notifies the relevant personnel if material is not available.
  • Assists the Line Operator at the end of the production order and ensures that stock reconciliation is done for packaging and returned to the warehouse.

Operation

• • Ensures that machinery and equipment in the area of responsibility are operated, maintained, and changed over efficiently as per SOP.
  • Makes adjustments to settings of equipment as per SOP.
  • Performs variant/size changeovers on selected equipment only.
  • Performs Autonomous Maintenance tasks up to and including AM Step 3 Activities.
  • Escalates any issues on the line needing attention to the Line Operator or Production Shift Manager.

Engineering

• • Performs basic maintenance on selected machines and components only. Limited to Cleaning, Lubricating, Inspecting, and Tightening.
  • Works with artisans during major breakdowns, assisting and following instructions from the Artisan.

Problem Solving and Decision Making

• • Initiates the first level of problem-solving (e.g. 5 Why) using structured problem-solving techniques and proposes continuous improvements.

Administration

• • Conducts hourly plant monitoring and completes log sheets/shopware for their area of responsibility.
  • Performs all related WCM activities and manually captures tags and hands over to the main Line Operator or Production Shift Manager.

Leadership and Relationships

• • Promotes a healthy working relationship with the line team.
  • Escalates problems proactively to the Line Operator/Production Shift Manager.

SHE

• • Adheres to Company emergency procedures, safety rules, and regulations and eliminates potential SHE hazards in the work area.
  • Performs behavioural safety observations and corrects unsafe behaviour.

Quality

• • Conducts visual quality checks of process material and finished products as per quality standards, records findings, and takes appropriate action when parameters are exceeded (e.g. stops the line and adjusts).
