Minimum Requirements:
- National Diploma in Environmental Health, Occupational Health and Safety, Safety Management, or equivalent plus SAMTRAC, MSRM or equivalent
- Computer competent
- 3 – 5 years of relevant experience
- Experience in the following OS activities:
- Risk assessments
- Evaluation and specification of personal safety equipment
- Physical conditions audits
- Safety audits
Primary Function:
- Lead the implementation of the Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) program to minimize injuries and diseases, mitigating risks to the health, safety, and integrity of employees, the community, and the environment.
- Monitor compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85/1993, regulations, other applicable statutes, and the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) Group SHE Policy and SHE Policy Operations Manual (POM).
- Advise and monitor legal compliance with the Disaster Management Act. Ensure proactive COJ Group preparedness for potential disasters and emergencies at COJ Group workplaces and activities.
- Facilitate the nomination and establishment of regional SHE committees citywide.
- Monitor the implementation of corrective measures and evaluate the successes and failures of the CoJ Group SHE Management program.

- Implement tasks and schedules to execute the SHE management program.
- Maintain records associated with monitoring functions and reporting requirements of the OS sub-directorate.
- Maximize return on human capital investment through value-adding accident prevention interventions to improve organizational performance.
- Lead and direct the smooth running of the CoJ Group SHE management program.
- Plan and guide project processes from start to finish.
- Monitor Occupational Health and Safety risks and identify organizational and employee needs.
- Implement communication strategies aimed at creating awareness of available services.
